A farm named for a pun, run on a plan
Story Thyme Farms started with a shelf of herbs, a stack of permaculture books, and a name too good to waste. It became a Missouri LLC in the spring of 2023 and has been putting roots down ever since.
Plant once, harvest for decades
Most of a grocery aisle is grown as an annual: tilled, planted, sprayed, and started over every spring. A food forest works the other way around. Fruit and nut trees form the canopy; berries and flowering shrubs fill the middle; comfrey, walking onions, rhubarb, and herbs hold the ground floor. Each layer feeds the others — leaf litter becomes mulch, deep roots pull minerals up, blossom feeds the bees that set the fruit.
Our flock lives inside that system, not beside it. The birds patrol for pests, turn windfall fruit into eggs, and leave fertility behind them. When the hatch is bigger than the brooder, fertile eggs go to the store so other flocks can start the same way.
Why there's a print shop on a farm website
Winters are long and the farmhouse table is warm. Story Thyme Botanicals grew out of the same field guides that planned the orchard — one hundred watercolour plates of the plants we grow, the wildflowers we leave for the bees, and the heritage chicken breeds we admire. Prints are produced to order by our print partner and shipped flat or rolled, so no inventory sits in the barn loft next to the onion screens.
