Sources & standards

How we know.

This site makes a lot of specific claims: planting depths, stratification days, spray windows, feed rates. Here is where they come from and what happens when one is wrong.

The plant library

Care data is checked against university extension publications, and each rule in every care rule carries its source and a confidence rating. Where the extensions disagree or the answer depends on your county, the page says so instead of picking a winner.

The field guides

Guides describe methods we actually use on the farm in Missouri, written by Nathan Story and checked against extension sources before publishing. When a guide gets revised, its updated date changes; we do not backdate.

Prices and stock

Where-to-buy listings are rechecked automatically against each nursery's own catalog, and every listing carries the date it was last verified. A plant we cannot verify in stock gets no link at all. Some links earn us a commission at no cost to you; that never changes which nurseries we list.

The artwork

The botanical plates across the library, the guides, and the print shop are original digital art, made for the farm in our own plate style. Photographs on the site were taken here unless captioned otherwise.
