Water

How long should I run my drip line?

Emitter flow rate against your weekly target per plant, turned into run minutes.

How this works

Summer vegetables want 1–2 gallons each per week. More emitters per plant cut the minutes and wet a wider root zone.

Questions people ask

How many gallons a week does a tomato need?

Roughly 1 to 2 gallons per plant per week early on, rising to 3 or more once fruit is sizing in heat.

Is it better to run drip daily or twice a week?

Fewer, longer runs push water deeper and pull roots down with it. Daily short runs keep roots shallow and the plant more vulnerable to a missed day.

How do I check my emitters are delivering?

Put a cup under one for a timed minute. Emitters clog and pressure drops along a long run, so the far end is usually getting less than you think.
