About this collection
Sixteen plants that grow where the soil runs out - saxifrage, gentian, edelweiss, houseleek, bitterroot, thrift, and auricula among them, each drawn close enough to show why they survive on stone. Each plate is labeled in script italic with the plant's common name and its Latin binomial.
The warm white ground gives these the look of a pressed-specimen album; on deep black the gentian blues and the felted gray of edelweiss come forward and the small flowers look lit. Scaled right for a stair landing, a powder room, or the wall beside a reading chair.
