About this collection
The captions do double duty in this set - each title is a two-genus Latin pairing of bird and perch, set in script italic. Cardinalis ilex is a cardinal in the holly, sialia malus a bluebird in apple blossom, cyanocitta quercus a jay in the oak, with junco juniperus, bombycilla amelanchier, and spinus echinacea carrying on the pattern.
On warm white the birds sit in daylight and the berries and blossoms keep their color. On deep black the reds and blues come forward like birds against dark timber. Suited to a den, a breakfast-table wall, or a north-facing room short on birds.
Cardinalis ilex is the classic and the right first plate. Junco juniperus keeps the pairing wintry; bombycilla amelanchier makes it three.
